Level 2 Art History
Course Description
Teacher in Charge: Ms T. Sayers.
Art History is a subject that helps us to understand the world around us through analysis and connection with a range of different art works, artists and art movements. Art reflects what is happening in society at a certain time in history and currently. Through studying Art History we can learn more about humanity, society, history and culture. Art is an important way that we can engage and explore the past, present and future.
We will focus on Art in Aotearoa (e.g. Pacific Island art and tatu) and art movements such as the Renaissance, Surrealism and Modernism. We will develop our skills in analysis, research and literacy. These are all valuable skills for NCEA in general and for study in the future. We will use art as the context for learning and developing our critical analysis and writing skills in particular. The course will also involve trips to different museums and art galleries in the Wellington region.
