Sports Studies 100 offers a foundational exploration of sports through the lens of movement analysis and its broader impacts. Students will delve into the mechanics of movement, examining how physical activity influences well-being through the Te Whare Tapa Whā model, which considers physical, mental, social, and spiritual health. The course also investigates the societal influences on movement practices and how these practices, in turn, affect social norms and individual health. Recommended Prior Learning
Active participation and effort applied during PE
Is able to run a beep test at Level 6 (5.30mins of continuous running)
Has shown previous involvement in school sports as a player/manager/coach.
Is willing to support the sports & PE department in running activities that promote health and physical activity.
Pathway
This course leads to Sport Studies 200. It prepares students with the necessary knowledge and skills to maintain and develop personal well-being, both now and in the future. It also prepares students for future academic and vocational opportunities.
