Further development and understanding of Samoan cultural perspectives. Students to enhance confidence in their cultural identity, improve social connections and civic participation, and the benefits of being bilingual cognitively. |
This course is leading to level 3 for those wanting to go on to further tertiary education at Victoria University. This course offered three internals and two externals, which are all endorsement papers. This emphasis on producing a spoken presentation, interaction focusing on part-time interviews, hosting another group (sports, school community) writing on different text types, and expressing their responses in a structured formal way using Samoan Language |
Course Overview
Term 1
Learn the Samoan ways and terms of interacting with another person
Learn strategies and different techniques of communication in Samoan.
Learn the differences between formal and informal words.
The different relationships between people and their status
Different types of careers and terminology are used is different sectors of careers.
Term 2
Learn different types of language used on different occasions
For example:
To be a maid of honor/ or a best man at a friend's wedding
Different types of speeches:
Welcome, greeting, acknowledgment, farewell, Orator speeches in the 'ava ceremony, etc.
Term 3
Learn different ways of creating a variety of text types in writing:
* Narrative story,
* Letter writing
* Invitation letter or card
* File. movie, book review
* History
